November Update (November 28, 2007) After the triumphant summer season, E7 returned to action in September for the Winter league campaign with high hopes.
The basis of the squad was the same but with new summer additions Nurul, Tom, & Shawn settling into the squad, a couple more players were added with Dan, Blacks, Zain, Justin & new Goalkeeper Kunu Bhai also added to the Elite squad.
A tough season was anticipated and this is how it turned out. With early games against Westferry, Shadwell, Stepney, Mohammadan and Bromley it was not going to be a walkover. But with plenty of ability in the squad and a solid management structure, based on the Anfield setup, Faz ‘Houllier’ Rahman and Anam ‘Rafa’ Haque were prepared to unleash the Masterplan.
E7 had a good start against Westferry with a comfortable 2-0 victory. The signs were good and the following game against BYM started well too with an early 2 goal lead. But inexplicably the 2 goal lead was lost and E7 lost their 4-2.
Tough games against Stepney and Shadwell in the league also resulted in another 2 defeats albeit very close games and E7 squandering a whole host missed opportunities. It was also a similar story in the cup being defeated by Beaumont although chances were going begging.
E7 knew they had to up their game and it started against Mohammadan. An experienced team, E7 knew it would difficult to get a result but they came through with a credible 4-4 draw which was really another game thrown away.
But the signs were good. E7 were starting to play more as a team with new players starting to settle and old players finding their form. Some team was going to pay for E7s bad start and unfortunately for them it was SYA.
On a cold wintery day in the murky depths of the East End, SYA were looking confident but their joy was to be short lived. No sooner had the game kicked off then E7 were rampaging forward. With the defence looking solid the attack was given the freedom to attack at will and a 4-0 half time lead could’ve been 10. The second half followed a similar suit and a further 6 goals followed for an emphatic 10-0 victory. 4 goals from Massum suggest the star player was hitting top form. This was promising for E7. The next week was another difficult follow up game against the Champions Bromley. On the back of their result last week, E7 were nonetheless full of hope. Bad refereeing and decision making led to E7 being one goal down and one man down in the first half. But the E7 lions came roaring back to claim a 3-1 lead even with 10 men!
The 2nd half continued the battling spirit with good performances from Southee, Nurul, Blacks and Shiraz to hold off Bromleys attempt at a comback. And with Massum and Shawn having freedom to attack E7 held firm to win 5-3.
The season was finally starting to roll and E7 are starting to stir all opposition teams into taking notice. Click here to return to the News page
